With the 356C Porsche began the latest development of the 356 model. Although the more modern, more powerful 911 was presented in 1963, production of the more dated 356 model was continued through to April 1965. No fewer than 16 684 Porsche 356Cs were sold; at the time it was the most sophisticated version of the 356 series. The main changes to the earlier models were hidden from view: disc brakes instead of drum brakes, synchronization of the gearbox, but also improved seats, dashboard and other details. Production was officially stopped in April 1965. However, appreciation of its good roadholding characteristics led to the construction of a special issue of 10 more 356Cs for the Dutch National Police in 1966.
