The Volkswagen Beetle – the best known Volkswagen and most famous German car ever – was built in the 1938-2003 period. Until 1967 it was called Type 1 1200 or 1300, according to the cc engine capacity. But its popular name, because of its shape, was Beetle, so the car manufacturer also started using this name. It was probably the New York Times that first called the Volkswagen “Beetle”. Twenty million Beetles rolled off the conveyor belt between 1937 and 2003. Our Dockx Volkswagen Beetle convertible saw the light of day in 1971.
