Which steps should I follow when renting a vehicle?

  • Determine where you want to reserve your vehicle: on the Dockx Rental website or in a Dockx Service Shop
  • Choose your vehicle. During busy periods, your desired vehicle may not be available. In that case, we offer an equivalent alternative.  
  • Determine how long and for which days you want to use the vehicle.
  • Check how you to get an economical rental rate
  • Determine the Dockx Service Shop where you want to pick up the vehicle.
  • Reserve a vehicle via the website, e-mail, phone or in the Dockx Service Shop of your choice.
  • When making a reservation, always mention your surname, first name, address, phone number, e-mail address, type of vehicle, pick-up date and return date.
  • You can pay online or in the shop.
  • You will receive an invoice for every rental. We e-mail the invoice when the vehicle is returned. 
  • Reserve a vehicle in good time. On weekends and during holidays, the chance that your desired vehicle is no longer available increases if you don't make a reservation in good time. 
  • Do you only want to reserve the vehicle for half a day? It is not possible to do this in advance. Contact your Dockx Service Shop on the day in question. Our employees will see which types of vehicles are available for you on that day. 

The technical specifications of the vehicles are non-binding with regard to contractual law. Small deviations may appear because we strive to offer you the most recent models.

What is and is not included in the rental price?

The rental price includes:

  • Civil Liability Insurance (company liability insurance)
  • Free kilometres subject to the rental period and type of vehicle.
  • 24/7 assistance and, depending on the situation, breakdown assistance within Europe.
  • Assistance, towing service and limited breakdown assistance. Breakdown assistance is only included if it concerns a vehicle technical error. For errors caused by the renter, a supplement will be charged for roadside assistance, depending on the location and time of the roadside assistance. 

Not included in the rental price:

  • Fuel: you always leave with a full tank of fuel and return the vehicle with a full tank. If this is not possible, we will refuel the car for you at our pump. The price of the refuelling (at current day price) is added to the final invoice.
  • Additional insurance chosen by the renter. 
  • Deposit: the amount is based on the duration of the rental contract and it differs per vehicle type.
  • One way service: if you want to return the vehicle at a different location, you will be charged a supplement of € 50 (incl. VAT).
  • Extra driver: to add an additional driver to a car, van, truck or moving van, you must pay €19.97 (incl. VAT) extra per driver.
  • Any extra costs for cleaning the vehicle. This cost will only be charged if you return the vehicle in a bad state or if you smoked in the vehicle.

When is it cheaper to rent a vehicle?

Renting a vehicle can be cheaper or more expensive depending on the period (week/weekend). Renting a car, van, moving van or truck outside peak periods (last week of the month, Saturday or holiday periods) can result in sizeable savings. This varies per type of vehicle.

  • There are favourable rates for cars for weekly and monthly rental.
  • Prices for vans and moving vans are cheaper on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; and for rentals of at least 5 consecutive days. Renting on a Sunday is always cheaper than renting on a Saturday.
  • Prices for motorcycles are cheaper if rented for a week. 
  • Favourable weekly and monthly rates are available for every type of vehicle. 

We regularly offer nice discounts for mid-week rentals of vans and moving vans. Early bookers of minibuses and motorcycles can also profit from our annually recurring special offers.

Can I rent on a Sunday or a public holiday?

Dockx Service Shops are closed on Sundays and public holidays. If you want to rent a vehicle on a Sunday or a public holiday, you must pick up the vehicle a day earlier between 17:30 and 18:00 at your chosen Dockx Service Shop. You will have the vehicle one evening longer for the same price.

Can I extend/cancel my reservation?

Can I change the length of a rental period?
You can only extend the rental period in the Dockx Service Shop where you picked up the vehicle (phone extensions are not possible). The deposit will be adjusted, and you will receive a new rental contract. Without this contract, you are not covered by insurance.

Can I cancel a reservation?
If you made a reservation and you want to cancel it, you can do so free-of-charge up to 48 hours before your departure. If you cancel within 48 hours of your departure, we will charge a cancellation fee of €75. To cancel, contact your Dockx Service Shop.

Can I rent extra equipment in addition to the vehicle?

Yes, it's possible to reserve recommended equipment either in the Dockx Service Shop or online. For example, we offer handy moving equipment like boxes, dollies, protective covers, moving straps, etc. Or you can rent a GPS device with your motorcycle. Some accessories, like a roof box, towing hook or winter tyres, can only be requested in a Dockx Service Shop. Contact your Dockx Service Shop on time.  

For a small supplement, you can add extra drivers to your vehicle or upgrade your car to a larger model either online or in a Dockx Service Shop. Please note: the vehicle is only insured if the driver(s) is/are mentioned on the contract. 

The equipment can be requested during your reservation at the ‘Options’ step. A supplement is charged for these accessories, which are subject to availability.
